Desktop as a service

Overview

Your Vying.io cloud desktop supports multiple users.

You can:

  • Add additional logins
  • Share folders between users
  • Control who can read, write, or edit files
  • Keep user data separate and secure

This is useful for teams, assistants, accountants, and anyone collaborating on the same machine.

🟩

1. Adding a Second User (Local User Account)

Inside your cloud desktop:

  1. Press Start
  2. Type Computer Management
  3. Open it
  4. Go to Local Users and Groups
  5. Click Users
  6. Right-click → New User…
  7. Enter the new username & password
  8. Uncheck “User must change password at next logon” (optional)
  9. Click Create

You now have a second user ready to log in.

🟦

2. Give the User Permissions (Standard or Administrator)

Still inside Computer Management:

  1. Go to Groups
  2. Double-click:

✔ Standard user

  • Add them to:
    • Users

✔ Administrator user

  • Add them to:
    • Administrators

Warning:

Administrator access gives full control over the system.

Use it only if truly needed.

🟧

3. Allowing Multiple Users to Log In (One at a Time or Simultaneously)

By default:

  • Windows allows one user at a time via RDP
  • If the second user logs in, the first gets disconnected

For businesses needing simultaneous user sessions, we can:

  • Activate multi-session functionality
  • Or create separate cloud desktops per user

Just contact support and we’ll set the correct option for you.

🟨

4. Creating a Shared Folder Between Users

Inside your cloud desktop:

  1. Create a new folder (example: C:\Shared)
  2. Right-click the folder → Properties
  3. Open Sharing tab
  4. Click Advanced Sharing
  5. Check Share this folder
  6. Click Permissions
  7. Add the users who need access
  8. Choose:
  • Read
  • Change (edit files)
  • Full Control (recommended only for admins)
  1. Click OK

Your folder is now shared between user accounts on the same cloud desktop.

🟪

5. Accessing the Shared Folder as Another User

When the second user logs in:

  1. Open File Explorer
  2. Go to This PC
  3. Open the drive containing the shared folder
  4. Navigate to C:\Shared

If permissions are correct, the folder opens normally.

🟫

6. Sharing Folders Between Different Cloud Desktops

If you want to share folders across multiple cloud PCs (for example PC1 ↔ PC2):

You need the shared folder to be accessible over the internal Vying.io private network.

To share:

  1. Share the folder on PC1
  2. Make sure both PC1 and PC2 are connected via VPN
  3. On PC2, map the network drive:
    \\192.168.x.x\Shared

(Where 192.168.x.x is PC1’s private IP)

This now creates a mini file server between desktops.

🟥

7. Best Practices

  • Use separate usernames for each person
  • Avoid giving admin access unless necessary
  • Always use shared folders, not the Desktop or Documents folder
  • Put company data in C:\Shared or a mapped network drive
  • For multi-user setups, request a separate cloud desktop if performance becomes slow

✔ Summary

Inside a cloud desktop you can:

  • Add users
  • Control permissions
  • Share folders internally
  • Share folders between desktops
  • Set up multi-user access

Everything works like normal Windows — but inside a secure private network.
