Desktop as a service

Overview

All Vying.io cloud desktops live inside a private, secure internal network.

This allows multiple desktops to:

  • share folders
  • exchange files
  • connect to each other
  • run internal applications
  • act as mini servers for each other

No data ever touches the public internet — everything stays inside the encrypted VPN and the internal 192.168.x.x network.

1. Internal IP Addresses (Private Network)

Every cloud desktop receives a private IP like:

192.168.20.10

192.168.20.14

192.168.20.21

These IPs:

  • Are not accessible from the internet
  • Are only reachable through the OpenVPN tunnel
  • Allow desktops to talk to each other directly

Think of it like all your cloud PCs being on the same office LAN.

2. What Cloud Desktops Can Do With Each Other

✔ Share folders

PC1 ↔ PC2 ↔ PC3 using \\192.168.x.x\folder

✔ Transfer files

Via mapped drives or shared folders.

✔ Remote into each other

If permissions allow, RDP from PC1 into PC2 is possible.

✔ Host small services

One desktop can act as a lightweight “server” for another.

✔ Run software that needs LAN access

Accounting tools, databases, shared tools, internal apps — all supported.

3. Requirements for Communication

All desktops involved must:

  • Have OpenVPN ON
  • Be inside the same internal private network
  • Have correct permissions (share access, credentials)

If one desktop cannot ping the other, it means the VPN is off or misconfigured.

4. Example Setup (3 Cloud Desktops Working Together)

PC1 → Accounting data share

PC2 → Works with PC1’s shared folder

PC3 → Back-office files accessible via PC1 & PC2

Shared folder example:

PC1 (192.168.20.10): \\192.168.20.10\CompanyData

PC2 maps it as Z:

PC3 maps it as Z:

All desktops are synced and working in real time.

5. Security

Your internal network is:

  • Encrypted
  • Not reachable from outside
  • Protected by VPN
  • Isolated per client or per tenant
  • Audited for abnormal traffic

No public exposure.

No ports open to the world.

Zero risk of outside intrusion.
