Desktop as a service

Overview

Your Vying.io cloud desktop comes with dedicated CPU, RAM, SSD storage, and backups.

This article explains what each resource means in practice and how it affects your everyday work — so you always understand what you’re paying for.

🧠

1. CPU (Processor Cores)

What is CPU?

CPU cores handle the “thinking” part of your cloud desktop — calculations, apps, multitasking, opening software, processing files, and everything that requires computation.

Your standard plan includes:

  • 4 vCPU Intel Xeon Silver cores

What this means for you:

  • Fast performance in apps like Excel, PDF tools, SAGA, browsers
  • Smooth multitasking (several apps open at once)
  • Snappy response with little lag

When you may need more CPU:

  • Heavy Excel usage (complex formulas, macros)
  • Running databases or ERP systems
  • Using multiple users on the same machine
  • Performing large exports or imports

We can upgrade CPU instantly — no downtime.

🧵

2. RAM (Memory)

What is RAM?

RAM keeps your apps open and running smoothly.

It’s the short-term memory of your cloud desktop.

Your standard plan includes:

  • 8 GB DDR4 RAM

What this means:

  • You can run several programs at once
  • Browsers, SAGA, Office apps all open smoothly
  • Switching between apps feels instant

When to upgrade RAM:

  • You open many browser tabs at the same time
  • You work with large Excel files
  • You run heavy desktop applications
  • You share the machine with another user

RAM upgrades take just a few minutes.

📦

3. SSD Storage

What is SSD storage?

Your cloud desktop uses high-end Samsung enterprise SSDs, which are fast, reliable, and designed for 24/7 workloads.

Your standard plan includes:

  • 200 GB SSD

What this means:

  • Faster file access
  • Faster application load times
  • Zero waiting when saving documents
  • Reliable performance even under load

When you might need more storage:

  • Storing many PDFs or accounting documents
  • Running large SQL databases
  • Using big local datasets or archives
  • Installing heavy apps (AutoCAD, databases, backups)

Storage upgrades can be applied without recreating the machine.

🔄

4. Backups & Restore Points

How backups work on Vying.io:

We take regular snapshots and backups of your cloud desktop.

These allow us to restore your machine to a previous state if:

  • a file is deleted
  • a program breaks
  • a virus is installed
  • something crashes
  • you request a rollback

Types of backups:

✔ Snapshot (Instant restore)

Used for quick fixes — restores your machine exactly as it was at a specific moment.

✔ Full backup

Stored safely in our infrastructure.

Used to recover your machine in case of major issues.

How long we keep backups:

  • Usually between 7–30 days, depending on configuration.
  • Logs may be kept up to 90 days for security and GDPR compliance.

How to request a restore:

Just contact support (phone or WhatsApp).

We restore your machine in minutes.

5. Network Bandwidth

Every cloud desktop includes a fast, stable network connection inside the datacenter.

This affects:

  • download/upload speed
  • cloud software performance
  • access to databases
  • general responsiveness

You don’t have to configure anything — it’s all handled automatically.

🔍

6. How Resources Affect Performance

Here’s the simplest breakdown:

  • CPU → affects processing, speed of calculations, software responsiveness
  • RAM → affects multitasking, number of apps open, smoothness
  • SSD → affects storage speed, file IO, app loading
  • Backups → safety net for mistakes and crashes
  • Bandwidth → affects internet-dependent apps

If something feels slow, support can check your machine and tell you exactly what needs upgrading.

🧩

Can I upgrade my resources later?

Yes.

CPU, RAM, and storage can be increased at any time:

  • no downtime
  • no data loss
  • no reinstall
  • immediate effect

You only pay the difference in your monthly plan.
